Janet Leigh
Janet Leigh was the sole child of a couple that often moved from one town to the next. Janet Leigh was intelligent and was able to skip a few classes. She graduated from high school at the age of 15. She was an incredibly lonely kid and spent a lot of her time in cinema theatres. She attended the University of the Pacific, where she studied psychology as well as music until she was "discovered" by her parents when they were traveling in Northern California. Her father was employed at the ski resort's front desk, where her mother worked as a housekeeper. Norma Shearer, a retired MGM actress was able to see Janet's photo at the desk in front. She inquired if she could take it home. Screen tests led to Janet's role as the main character in The Romance of Rosy Ridge (1947). Janet seemed to be the ideal match for MGM's young, innocent character of a country girl. Janet was the young genius in a variety of films and worked with stars such as Gary Cooper, Gary Cooper and Orson Welles. Little Women (1949), one of her most film successes, was her debut.
