Joan Blondell

Joan Blondell is a blonde actress with big blue eyes, a big smile, and huge hair. Her father was an Polish Jewish immigrant and her mother was Irish. Joan was on stage when she was just three years old. She performed on the circuit for a long time with her parents. When she turned 17 she became a stock broker. Her Broadway debut in New York with the Ziegfeld Follies. (1929) The year was 1929, and Warner Brothers decided that the show Sinners' Holiday (1930) was to be made. The film had a tremendous success and Cagney and Joan were given the leading roles. Cagney was able to team with Joan in The Public Enemy (1931) as well as Blonde Crazy (1931), as well as other films. She was the main character in The Office Wife (1930) as she got ready to go to work. Cagney was a major star for Warner Brothers, but Joan did not rise to the same heights. Her roles in musicals and films about gangsters were good enough for second-leads, but not the first.
