Martha Higareda

Higareda was the daughter of Jose Luis Higareda (therapist and artist) and Martha Cervantes, actress. She is also the sibling of Miriam Higareda. The acting profession was her first passion and she began dancing flamenco, tap, folklore, and jazz from a young age. She relocated to Mexico City at 14 from Tabasco the country she grew up in to pursue acting. Her acting debut was on stage, performing in productions like "Little Women" and "Don Juan" as well as other plays. At 15, she was an advanced student. She was enrolled in the college at El Tecnologico de Monterrey to learn about communications. The first thing in the morning, she'd go to school and at night, she would appear in the theater. Her sister and mother then moved to Mexico City, where she went to acting school. Martha made her television debut on the "Zapping Zone" two-hour show about life. Martha began to do her own sports segments in the show. She was only 16 years old at the time Alfonso Cuaron visited Mexico City to audition for the role of "Y tu Mama tambien". Martha was offered the role of Cecilia Huerta. However, she was too young to perform the role because of the nakedness of the movie. Cuaron advised Martha to pursue her acting career. Martha followed his advice immediately after she changed her major from communications to the performing arts.
